i'm curious as to whether there is a really good painter/shop down there in the the area. what do they/does he spray paint-wise? how much is a good paint job? what kind of prep work do they do? do they or will they sand to bare metal?

Doc's classic restore shop is pretty good....they have a good paint shop in there...and they do a real nice job on the paint....you tell them what you want and they'll do it. Not the cheapest in town....but they will give you exactly what you ask of them.

Hey Toyta give me a call, my friend does it on the side and does and awesome job. It all depends on what you want done if he'll do it, and you can't beat his price. I am going to get him to paint my Cobra.

finished cleaning up the miata yesterday....the paint has literally gone to shite....absorbing too much dirt...none of the cleaners work....soaks up the rubbing compound into the paint...staining it....and a clay bar....it just doesn't do it....helped a litttle that i went ahead got mad enough to wet sand most of it....but it didn't help that much. I figure since i'll be getting another car after i graduate....that it can wait for paint...and then i'll just do whatever i want w/ the paint...maybe get a little crazy....haha....good ol' backyard painting come time.

most of the time, the problems with paint can be associated to the types of waxes and cleaner you use. with the exception of paints from the 80's, most paints that do what you are describing can attribute this crappiness to the use of silicone-rich waxes.

or the fact that i haven't had a chance to clean my car in a few months....it got god-aweful dirty...everytime i wanted to clean my car...something else had to be done......and it's not the original paint...my brother...the previous owner....had an accident once....and went the super cheap route to fix it....you can see that they didn't prep very well...and that they did a horrible job on the paint....oh well...i've never had it w/ a good body or paint....so i'd planned on painting it myself once i retired it to weekend duty....i'd thought about doing a panda style paint....maybe just some striping....who knows....it'll be a few months until then.
