so the buildup is underway and i have made the decision to start a build thread. as i make progress i will post pictures along with a description of what is being done.
as of right now the truck is completely ripped apart and in san antonio at a custom shop getting a few modifications done. i could have done these but i wanted a profesional to do this so i dont fuck up the frame. i have recently found that i will have to do more bodywork on the doors and other panels i decided to keep.
the first set of pictures will be posted this weekend after we get the truck back. i will try to make updates everytime i do something so that it will possibly get other people interested in doing some things to their vehicles.
YOU MAY RESPOND IN THIS THREAD BUT KEEP IT ON TOPIC AND NO SHITTALKING. this thread is meant to be helpful so that more people can understand what i do. i do not have to do this for anyone but i want to give a better understanding.
there is a long list of things to do so i wont be listing out everything. i will post what i am doing along with pics instead. MAY THE FUN BEGIN!!!

I'm a carbed motor guy too...as far as them being dropped 80% of the time they look good. I do prefer dropped than lifted for the street. If you lift your truck and it never sees dirt thats dumb. And ridiculously huge trucks I don't like.

well i leave in about 2 hours to go pick the truck up from fat robs. i will post up some pics after we get back. should be a fun trip. we're stopping by the swap meet in new braunfels on the way back and rob told me last week that since he was in a hurry to leave for a show in kinder, la., that we would hang out and go to lunch. see yall tonight.

ok so i just got back and here are the pics i promised.
if anyone needs custom work done to this extent i highly recommend fat robs rod and custom. we also went to the swap meet and found a few things but i decided not to get them. now im kicking myself in the ass. i will also post some pics of what else rob has going on at his shop.
the notch had to be cut down and rebent in order to fit properly. the bars in between the notch is the new crossmember. the crossmember is temporary. i have a design that rob is working on for me but its really complicated and is gonna take awhile to build. the rear bumper is about an inch from laying on the ground. i have 2 inch drop blocks that i will be installing soon so it will lay on the ground after that. tomorrow i will post more pics of the notch and i will be doing work on the doors and i will post those pics as well.
enjoy the pics!!!

well tonight i got a few more things done. i took the everything off the dash so that i could use them on the new cab. suprisingly everything was still in good shape and works. i took the rear glass out which want hard at all. i also managed tto clean up some more of the frame. i will post the pics later in the week due to the cameras batteries are dead. later in the week i will be patching up the doors and removing the cab from the frame so the frame can be blasted and the cab can be replaced.
a little more feedback would be nice.

looking good cruisin .... cant wait to see the finished product and the rest of the build process ....
are you gonna coat that frame with like spray in bedliner or some other type of coating after it gets blasted ??? what kinda blasting you gonna do ... may i recommend staying away from Sand Blasting!!! Sand contains salt and if it gets into the frame, its gonna rust again .. go with that new bead blasting or whatever ...

its getting blasted by a guy in kennedy for real cheap. gotta love shop discounts. the frame will be painted an industrial grade black. im thinking about putting some pinstriping on the frame as well as the body.

actually im thinking of leaving the door handles but they may get shaved. i kinda want to keep as much of the original stuff as possible, but the welding machine has been sitting in the corner begging to do some work. as of right now the mirrors are being shaved so i can use the iron cross peep mirrors.
im thinking of doing something i have never seen done before, but its one of those things that may look fuckin awesome or it may look horrible.

well man if you decide to shave the door handles i would suggest getting on ebay and searching for autoloc shaved door handle kit i think i got the 50 lb. not too sure. they are the cheapest and the work great and pretty easy to install. my dad and i did my trucks by ourselves with no problem.
is this going to be a secretive thing or what? if not run by us you know we will be honest with you. i will prolly like seeing as i like everything you have done to so far with the truck and plans for it.
c-low
04-23-2007, 11:33 PM
if i do shave the handles i will be going through a vendor on another board i get on. autoloc is a good company but the kit i will be getting is vehicle specific.
its by far not a secretive build. right now i just want to go over the idea in my head a little so that i dont look like a dumbass if i do it. when i get closed to actually doing it i will ask you guys what your opinions are on it.
i also have a buddy building a truck specifically for sema 2008 and im gonna talk to him about doing some things to the truck that i dont have the experience for. they will be custom touches that you dont see much or at all. those things will probably be the only secretive things on the truck.
as for color, first i will do either flat black or flat orange with a white top and my buddies shop logo on the doors with red steelies and some fat white walls. after cruisin it like that for a while it will be torn apart again and painted either one solid color or a wild two tone. im thinking a black on top, orange on bottom two tone with black and polished 20's. not sure though.

ok so i have been doing some work to the truck here lately but it hasnt been anything major. i did some work to the doors and found a one inch layer of bondo, so im stripping te whole door down to bare metal and doing needed repairs. i also started welding the upper cab seam at the rear of the roof. since im scraping the current cab i figured this would be a good time to get some practice in. its turning out pretty good. i am heading to the shop in a few hours so i will get some pics tonight.
on monday my girlfriend and i made yet another trip to see fat rob. this time it was for her truck. she managed to get a great deal on a full 2 link and front setup for her truck. she just might have her truck finished before me.

as for my 67 i really didnt get to do much this weekend other than clean up the front fenders and grille and see what bodywork needed to be done. but we did get the camaro back and we put the new front clip on. it only took two days. im not having good experiences with goodmark as of now.
this weekend i will be doing all the bodywork on the front end of the 67 along with trying to fix my door on my 93. i promise i will get pictures when i do the work this weekend. i'll even throw in a few shots of the camaro in all of its new orangeness.

so heres whats been going on lately.....
i spoke to nathan porter with porterbuilt street rods in arizona last week and i have made the decision to buy and install their dropmember. the dropmember is an aftermarket front crossmember made specifically for for the 63-72 chevy trucks. using this crossmember means that i wont have to cut the frame to do the frame z or section the original crossmember and it allows you to lay the frame on the ground with up to a 29" tire. therefore i wont have to deal with the complications of repositioning the steering equipment, lowering the motor mounts, raising the transmission, or all the bodywork just to get everything correct. i just have to get the money together and order it. i also talked to him about doing a few things with the truck that usually cant be done while using the dropmember. it'll be alot of work but being different is what its all about.
currently i am searching for someone to do a rendering of what the truck will look like finished. the person that was going to do it hasnt returned my calls or emails in 2 months so the search continues.
i havent been out to the shop recently to do any work mainly due to the fact that the weather has been shitty when i actualy have time. things have slowed down but they havent stopped yet. the truck is scheduled to debut at next years turkey drag(truck show in tyler) in december. it may make its local debut the weekend before if things go as planned. my girlfriends truck will debut around the same time if she'll get off her ass and order some parts.
other than this i havent been up to shit.

the search button is your friend. try www.suicidedoors.com (http://www.suicidedoors.com) they sell quality products for great prices. for spindles go with djm or western chassis. belltech spindles are expensive and move the wheels out up to an inch. if you do go with bags use either firestone or slam specialties re7's. the re7's are the best bags on the market. im using them. in the rear you can use a 2 link, 4 link, or a 6 link. it all depends on how much you want to spend and your skills. it can get expensive, but good parts are never cheap and cheap parts are never good.
p.s. STAY AWAY FROM CHASSIS TECH AND AIM INDUSTRIES and anyone affiliated with them!!! they sell nothing but crap.

so its been a while, heres whats going on. the weather has been so bad that i cant get out to inez to work on the truck so ive been doing research and getting a few things i need.
last week i was surfing the net and decided to see if anyone had a project that just happened to have the same name. well what do ya know there was. heres where it gets interesting. pacific coast customs is a shop in california that does very reputable work. i mean they put out some sick ass rides. well they just happen to have a "project retrospect". it just so happens that the truck is the same body style as mine. i didnt want to step on any toes and have lawyers on my ass so i emailed them and talked about the names. luckily the owner is a great guy and doesnt mind if i use the name. he has even offered to help with a few things in the future. i will post a picture of the rendering of the other " project retrospect" later.
i also found a local shop that does some good work and talked to the guy about finding those hard to find parts. like an original steering wheel that isnt cracked among other things. im just waiting for him to call me back.
i also found out that since i will be switching the cab i will have to do alot of paperwork to get a new title to match the truck. in that paperwork i have to list everything that is done to the truck. everything from the ground up. im gonna need about 12 extra pages for this. then a dps officer has to look over the vehicle to make sure everything is legal and there are no stolen parts. then more paperwork. blah blah blah.
heres the rendering of the other "retrospect". looks like i have some fierce competition.

well here lately my focus has been on my other project and i havent had time for this one. there is just too much stuff going on with my truck and the camaro at once and we need the room around the shop so we can work. this project will take too much time and money to finish. therefor i will be parting out the truck and taking the rest to the scrapper. i have alot of suspension stuff that is brand new and needs to be sold. it makes me want to cry to think about getting rid of it after so much time put into it. i really hate to see it go but bigger things await. if you know anyone that needs parts let me know and i will see what i have.
is it a shortbed or longbed and how much for the th400 tranny? I wanna shorten my lwb cheby but need a bed to make it look right.
