ok so i have some 18 inch deep dish rims and im looking for some rubbers. the main ones im concerned about are the rear tires. they are 10 inches wide so im looking for around some 285/40's. they will be used for daily street driving and once a month racing at the track.....budget is not involved in this topic so lets not make that a factor. lmk about your past experiences with tires and what you think would be the best for me

thanks in advance

i would go with mickey thompson street radials!!!!! they hook up on the street and the track!!!!! that is what i would go with for the back and on the front i would put a set of kuhmo ecsta spt's!!!!!

why would i put drag radials on the back when all they will be used for on the street is normal driving? no need for radials if they will only be used once a month

you said budget was not a concern and you stated that you wanted good rear tires.

drag radials have tread for the street and are very legal. Unless you plan on going offroad or something along those lines so I dont see why you wouldnt run 2 on the back if price isnt an issue. the fronts you can run like a kuhmo or a nitto.

because i was under the understanding that drag radials wear out faster than regular street tires. and since they are for street most of the time i didnt want to go through them as much as jinka goes through cars

the only reason they wear out faster is because they start off with less to begin with. most of your street tires have 10/32 or better to begin with a drag radial is usually somewhere around 6/32.

I used to run nitto's on my mr2 I loved em, had kuhmos on this one when I first got it they where alright but kind of uncomforatable but thats because they where 40 series tires could feel every rock in the road. Also had toyo proxies for a while to but didnt have them long enough before the bad alignment ate those up, so no comment on those although the short period of time I did have them it was good.
Ive got Fuzion ZRi's right now they are alright they seem to hook up very nicely in the dry weather and decently in the rain.

If I was going to make a suggestion on tire I would probably try out those Nitto INVO's they seem to be very good street & track tires with decent treadlife. Or the Fuzion ZRi If you are on a budget and want a good tire for the price.

From my meager experience with tire choices, I love the Michelin PS2's, Yokohama ES100's and the best bang for the buck IMO are the Federal SS595's. I had those on my Accord coupe and it handled like it was on rails. I'll be getting those for the Beaterbu as well.

you mean the invo's, i just ordered a set for my car, they should be in the begining of next week if you want to stop by the shop and look at them, but they are 295/35/18 and 255/40/18. i wouldnt put a 285 nitto on a 10 inch rim since they tend to run a little narrow.

and contrary to what dean said dr's do wear out faster because of the softer tread compound not just because they start with less tread.

i used some falkins on my hatch, they spun but not as bad as you would think with 560 whp lol. i have always liked them, they are cheap and usually last awhile.

Im aware that if you have a softer compound it wears faster but they also dont have a very long tire life either to begin with. thats what I was trying to get across.

please, for the love of GOD, do not get kumho ecsta 712's. the GForce KDW's are good according to most f body people i know, but i've only autocrossed on the GForce sports. the Fuzion ZRi are a very good tyre for the money and for the performance...i was approached by and given a set of the ZRi in order to get good technical data. i am also a big fan of Bridgestone Potenza (RE750, 040, Pole Position). the Hankooks and Nankangs pretty much suck. the Toyo Proxes are good as long as you get the better compound. the Goodyear F1's are pretty horrible, Pirelli P Zero Nero's are good tyres. i know there are others, but i am drawing a blank at the moment.

but a few things haven't REALLY been discussed. the only thing was that price really wasn't to be a determining factor. bwake, you said track and i'll assume it's drag race, right? i mean, it's impossible to discuss proper tyre choice without discussing purpose, power, curb weight, damping, and strut adjustment capability. to me, it's all about the the factors i've specified along with driving style. i'd venture to say most folks can't tell or feel how much sidewall flex is present when apexing at 'speed'. nor do i think most folks would be able to feel the difference between sidewall flex and loss of traction or the difference between brake fade and a tyre that has gotten past its heat range (e.g.; the tyres have become greasy). how about how exacting you are about monitoring pressures? just my $0.02USD

I put a set of Nitto's on my car for traction purposes at the track last november. My brand new kumho ecstas are sitting in the garage waiting to be remounted. Drove around on my Nittos for a few days after the track and decided to leave them on cause I liked how they performed on the street (surprised that they handled well in wet weather) and track. They do wear faster because they are drag radials and are of softer compound, but then again I have fried Goodyears and a previous set of Kumhos. Buy a set for street performance and just have a set of Nittos or MT's to drag race with. When I by a set of wheels for sleeper that match OEM wheels I will be doing that.

not like it matters but for that setup the khumos are better im sure ppl wont agree but ive raced a 240 with ur exact setup on khumos and i hardley burnt out on 3k launches but honestly if u dont have coil overs on that thing yet i wouldnt go crazy on tires yet

ToyotaTechGeek
07-19-2007, 11:38 PM
kumho what? V700's? V710's? or Ecstas? if you say ecsta, i will say BS all the way. at no point anywhere does a kumho ecsta do anything but SUCK. and i will also disagree with the whole coilover comment too. most people can't even begin to drive their cars on stock suspension at the absolute limit. without doing so, most suspension purchases are ridiculous and are a waste of time and money. of course, it also depends on the type of 'racing' and what the owner's/driver's idea of what the absolute limit is.

the invos arent a shitty tire by any means

SunkinJeep
07-20-2007, 01:10 PM
rrright i didnt say you cant drive without coil overs its just gonna screw up your treadware if you do alot of burnouts and racing or w.e which will result in wheel hop and w.e say its bs like i said it dosnt matter dam no need to get all upset and i never said they were shitty i just said everyone here is saying khumo sucks well they dont suck as bad as ppl are making them

SunkinJeep
07-20-2007, 02:18 PM

Sunkinjeep, if your rea some of the post right they don't say all Kumho suck but only the ectsa. They make a lot of good road racing tires.

TTG, I have allways wanted to run the bridgestone Potenzas but I buy all my tires from discount and they don't carry them and don't get a good price break if they have to order them.

I run MT ET street radials becasue I can't get traction. They last just as long for me as the KDW's on the rear.

ToyotaTechGeek
07-20-2007, 02:47 PM
wow, some punctuation please!

anyway, i'm not upset, i'm trying to get some sort of clarity as to the statement that you made.

98-the Potenzas are a great tyre! i enjoy them! too bad all of the 'good' ones are getting discontinued. guess maybe they are doing so because the product line-up will change due to the massive amounts of r&d they have with the FIA F1 season!

um someone mentiond mickey tompson drag radials my friend has those on his camaro which is a street car but i asked him y he would put those on cause everytime it rains he slides all over the place and its his daily driver idk does anyone else have those on a daily driver?

I have the MT ET street radials on the Camaro and Mustang. I try to avoid driving in the rain with them. I took the Mustang for a couple of spins today in this rain, and was only going 35mph.

Why would anyone want et streets on any car that is street driven? et streets are designed for the track scene, not the street scene. I would put a set of tires that are for meant for highway use all the time.
