you think if i advanced the timing on my cam gear, it might help with the problems i'm having with the new rims and tires?

no.what he said. you shouldnt ever mess with your own cam gear. you may actually hurt performance. you need a dyno to see if you are moving it in the right direction. however on a stock motor it is pointless to adjust your cam timing unless you are boosted or on a heavy shot of gas. you can check your ignition timing, and your crank timing. if either is off it will affect how your car runs. alot of good motors have been ruined by inexperienced people messing with cam gears. anyone ever remember john gamez? he always messed with his cam gear and the car ran worse each time.

well, Vic put my AEM gear on for me, and we set it 4 degrees advanced, then i messed with it one other time, and retarded it 4 degrees and it helped when i was on my 13's plus, it's really helped my gas mileage (i'm getting like an extra 25 miles to the tank), i'm just wondering if i advance it back to where we had it, if it'll help me with the bigger rims.

most of the time when you adjust a cam gear what you are doing is shifting the power band. you can advance it or retard it,but with out a dyno there is noway to actually tell if you moved it thr right amount. its not that big of a deal on a stock motor but if you were running hi compression pistons the motor should be clayed to ensure the valves wont hit the pistons. did you move adjust the ignition timing? and as i stated before this should be done on a dyno by an experienced tuner so that you can see if you are gaining or losing hp. and the ass dyno doesnt count neither does a stop watch. on a stock motor you will not see much gains if any by adjusting the cam. you should save up a few hundred dollars buy a cam and a few other parts then get tuned.

we'll see, i plan on mods like that, but i have to see what the other (the pm J) pans out like. then i'll get into spending real money in it.

I know a 4degree advance on a miata boosts low end torque...but you loose quite a bit in the high end. If you don't have much in the high end...it's not worth it.

well, my high end is ok. w/o the gear on, it was the low end that i had no power on. my stock power band is from 5-6K. when i advanced the gear 4 degrees, i had a nice amount of power, all the way through. when i dropped it to a retarded 4 degrees, i couldn't really tell the difference in low or high end, but my gas mileage went way up. i went from getting like 200 miles to the tank to geting like 225-230 miles to the tank. so i'm wondering if i put it back to the advanced 4 (after i get the POS runnin) if it'll help me turn them wheels faster off the line and down the run.

all of you people that are worried about if i'll get caught on the streets. as soon as i get the POS runnin, and i get new cvshafts...i'll be goin to the track with yall. and i'll prolly get more track time than street time. but that's also another reason i kept the 13's, those'll be for track use only.
