so im wanting to make my eclipse into a rear wheel drive 8 cylinder. gonna use the mustang 302 and 6-speed tranny. rear wheel base is 1509mm on the eclipse and 1504 mm on the mustang. all the suspension and everything off the mustang will be welded onto the eclipse. i need all input on this subject. plz do not put this idea down cuz it is somethin i have not seen before and i wanna do it.

yes everything will be completly fabbed. looking at the front end ill be able to use every suspension part except the struts cuz they will not hold the extra weight...so the mustang shocks and springs will be fabbed in

That's an interesting project. It's going to take a LOT of fabrication. You had better take it to someone who knows what they're doing. This is something that will take a looooong time to do. Will it be worth it in the end? IMO, no, but it's up to you if the end result makes you happy. I'd like to see you do it but I think you will get burned out too fast.

Thanx for the offer. I'd love to be part of a project of that caliber. I can say without a doubt that it will be the most ambitious thing I've ever tackled. Count me in when I can!!

Sounds like a cool project but unless you're getting the motor for an absolute steal there are a lot better options to go with.

Very ambitious project. I would check on eclipse forums to check who has done it before and what they did to accomplish their project. Good luck to you and hope you see your project come to fruition.

im going to say what carlton and I are both thinking.

I know part of his reasoning for going with a SBF, it's one of the most compact V8's you can get. It's smaller externally than any LSx or SBC for that matter. Small = less of a nightmare to shoehorn in but that's still not going to help a whole lot....lol.

also with ford you have a front distributor which aids in space problem. In the back it may need to go far back enough that swapping distributors may be a HUGE problem.

But if you went with a late model LSX based engine f*ck a distributor lol

If you need one lmk

that would be pretty sweet. but of course i'm going to agree with D and vic. if you're going to go for a project of that magnitude, you may as well put the most modern engine in it. the easiest way i can think would be to find a wrecked GTO and take the entire chassis. check out the "conversions and hybrids" section of LS1tech.com. people do some crazy shit. a guy put a whole GTO frontend and rearend into a vauxhall astra.

well i saw a 7.4L fit with plenty of space to the front and sides so i know the SBF will fit for sure with no problems. Yes Phil you were right about my reasoning for the SBF. It is one of the most compact V8's. Plus i just like the motor.

Actually this project might drop cuz with the amount of money i would put into it i could keep my stock motor and mod it to run 12's and i would be happy

haha thats crazy 454 in a eclipse.

sounds like a big headeache. youd be better off building a whole chassis andd then puttin an eclipse body on it some how.
