missed the point............. its the alamo, he said the battle was without meaning, like it was for nuthing. we live in texas, if you dont understand the battle i guess to some it is meaningless. but for some people, brave people, to die for something they truely belive in.... i dont think it was meaningless. and it was disrepectful to those who died in the battle and those of us who live here. it was men who gave thier all until thier fall. faught no matter what. gave thier lives up rather than surrender. for freedom, no matter the odds. i guess you would have to be an honerable man to understand

true, it is the past, but is there a future without a past? the history and past is what makes us today. you have to know and understand it. i really wouldnt drop the mag cause they said fuck the alamo. i had already stopped reading it for at least 2 yrs now. but i just found the matter disrespectful. not the mag, its the writer. and if i ran the mag i wouldnot have printed it. but we can go on about politics and history, and in the end it comes down to we live in america where we have the freedom of speech.. which people died for throughout history :?

in order to know where you are going you have to know where you came from. if you forget where you come from how can you know where you are going? and i am not referring to the fact that we are mexicans but the fact that we are americans.
if it wasnt for the people who sacrificed their lives we would not be where we are today. would you rather we be as unorganized and living in poverty as much as most of mexico does? yes we have our problems but we are alot better off than most of the world as a country/state. some people will never understand the sacrifices that have been made so that we can live in a country like ours. go to irag or pakistan or hell even haitti and then tell us you dont app the sacrifrices made by these people who volunteered to take part in the massacre. just a few of the bravest men we will never know

FUCK SUPER STREET!! im quite proud of my texan heritage. as far back as i have read on my family, my dads side has always been apart of Texas history (even as far back as the Taylor - Sutton Feud in the mid 1800s) and I am in NO WAY supportive of ANYONE who talks down on this great state. i wouldnt want to live anywhere but here.
i guess mann :? that is tha past: some people live in tha past?? i dont i live for today thinking if im gonna wake tomorrow get my drift???????? Not dissing tha people who died just giving my .02 cents
yellowhatch - nobody is saying that u should live in the past....but if nothing else, be aware of it and realize how it has shaped our lives today. this city, state, and country wouldnt be the same.
say for instance, even though the mexicans won the battle at the Alamo, that they had wound up defeating the texans at San Jacinto, there would have never been any Texas Rangers because Santa Anna would have won control of the State. that right there would've changed the way my life is because they, the Rangers, were on the same side as the Sutton family mentioned above and without of them, the Sutton family would have lost the feud alowing the Taylors (my family) to become wealthy land owners
the texas rangers were also important in WWII because of their reputation. I dont remember if it was FDR or Eisenhower who was the president at the time, but at one point after USA declared war on germany, the president sent a letter to Hitler saying that if he did not pull his forces out of Italy or northern Africa (not sure which one) that he would send over the Texas Rangers to push the Nazis out of the territory. after receiving the letter, Hitler did just that.
So if the battle at the Alamo was meaningless, the Texan forces at San Jacinto would have had nothing to fight for and Santa Anna would have won the battle and most likely, full control of Texas (which means no formation of the Texas Rangers) and without the reputation of the Texas Rangers, hitler may have been able to win the war against America, France, and England and in doing so, drastically changed the way our lives are today.
Ok so ya I got a little carried away with the history lesson, but im just trying to point out how one small thing such as a battle, almost 200 years ago, has shaped our lives today
